This FHIR Implementation Guide (IG) provides a structured framework for software vendors that aim to support structured fhir-based messaging. It is based on the "Plattform Gerichtete AdHoc Kommunikation (PGK)" specification in Austria which defines a central provider directory as well as support and operational processes. The Messaging FHIR IG describes wide-spread system-to-system communication use cases between various stakeholders in healthcare.
The goal is to define a secure, modern and interoperable communication in healthcare based on standardized well defined FHIR structures. This helps to avoid proprietary formats and non-secure transmission of medical data with e.g. fax and email. The Messaging FHIR IG defines FHIR Message Definitions, Profiles etcetera and is transport protocol agnostic.
The Messaging FHIR Implementation Guide (IG) is a work-in-progress document and content, especially use cases will be added on an ongoing basis. The IG is created and maintained by the members of the FHIR-over-matrix working group.
